Pain Management After Knee Replacement
You are NOT expected to be pain free.
-
· The aim is for your pain to be manageable, to allow you to do your physiotherapy and exercises.
-
· As well as having regular pain relief, there is additional pain medication available. You will need to ask for this!
-
· You are expected to have a pain score of 1-2.
-
· When you feel your pain rising from a 2 to a 3 you should request pain relief.
-
· Ice is available and helps with pain by reducing swelling and heat.
-
· A member of the Acute Pain Service will see you the morning after your surgery to discuss your current pain relief, pre-operative pain relief and make a discharge plan for you.
