NHS National Education for Scotland Allied Health Professionals Fellowship Programme for total knee replacement patients with body mass index >35

Patient information and consent form

Your Orthopaedic Consultant has recommended that you take part in a rehabilitation programme before your total knee replacement.

The programme is part of an Allied Health Professions Fellowship funded by NHS Education for Scotland, which allows you to participate in physiotherapy and dietetic treatment before your surgery.

Why have you been invited

The National Institute for Health and Care (NICE) Guidelines for Osteoarthritis (OA) recommend an integrated approach to managing your condition through access to appropriate information, activity, exercise and interventions to achieve weight loss.

These non-pharmacological management strategies are a core treatment towards OA management of joint pain prior to consideration of surgical interventions.

How we will contact you

We are working in partnership with Giraffe International Healthcare, who have developed a UK web based physiotherapy platform which will be used to provide remote personalised intervention.

Patients will provide their name and email address, which will be used by an NHS Golden Jubilee physiotherapist to set up log in details, which will be provided to you.

The Physiotherapist and Dietician will contact you by telephone or NHS Attend Anywhere video call, as required.

Data Protection

The Giraffe Platform will hold the following patient data:

  • First name
  • Surname
  • Email address
  • Exercise information and time completed
  • Comments the patient may want to input

All data is stored within the UK and is in accordance with the Data Protection Act 2018, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and NHS Golden Jubilee Data Protection Policy.
