Prehab Total Knee Replacement

Pain Management

You are NOT expected to be pain free.

  • · The aim is for your pain to be manageable, to allow you to do your physiotherapy and exercises.

  • · As well as having regular pain relief, there is additional pain medication available. You will need to ask for this!

  • · You are expected to have a pain score of 1-2.

  • · When you feel your pain rising from a 2 to a 3 you should request pain relief.

  • · Ice is available and helps with pain by reducing swelling and heat.

  • · A member of the Acute Pain Service will see you the morning after your surgery to discuss your current pain relief, pre-operative pain relief and make a discharge plan for you.

(Information from the Acute Pain Service, GJNH).
